Our Story

As often is the case in the history of Ultimate, the team was formed by university students in Granada due to exchange programs (Sicue-Seneca, Erasmus, etc) who already knew about the sport and wanted to continue playing.

The team was formed in the year 2008 under the name PENULTIMANOS.  In 2013, the name was changed to its current version, GRANAYD (which is pronounced as Grenade).  The name and logo refer to the fact that in Spanish, “Granada” means pomegranate, hand-grenade, and is the name of the city.  Our rendering of the name to reflect the English pronunciation of the word is an homage to the international composition of the team due to Granada’s stature as a popular Erasmus and Study-abroad destination.

We have been registered as an official athletic club since the year 2015.

Up till now, the team has participated in many beach and grass Ultimate tournaments, and the performance and progression of the team has been notable.  It has participated in the Spanish Open Championships various times, with its best result being a fourth place finish in the second division at the Castelldefels Championship of 2014. One of our most important goals is to compete in the National Mixed Tournament for the first time.

Furthermore, the team has finished first in various tournaments around Spain.

Currently, two players on our roster (one of them a native of Granada) have been named to the Spanish National Team. Both participated in the the recent European Ultimate Championship (EUC2015) in Copenhagen, Denmark ,as well as other international tournaments.

Our team organizes a club tournament called TAPASANDO, which has been held every spring since 2010.
